Division Quality Leader - Chicago

Mauser USA LLC has an opportunity for a Division Quality Leader who will be responsible for covering the North American region for the division. The position reports to the VP of Quality and Safety

Mauser is a leading global supplier of industrial packaging solutions, manufacturing a variety of plastic, steel and fiber containers for a diverse customer base spanning industries including oil & gas, food & beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical, amongst others.  Mauser is experiencing significant growth – both organically as well as through acquisition – therefore the opportunities for successful individuals can be significant.  The organization is also planning for an upcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO) which makes this an exciting and busy time within the organization.

The newly hired Division Quality Leader will be responsible for continuing to drive cultural transformation around quality, and will implement, reinforce and assist in the refinement of the Mauser Quality System  throughout the organization.  With a focus on the plants in this division, this leader will evaluate the capabilities of the current quality team.  As Mauser NA is an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer, the Leader will coordinate with quality managers and optimize use of shared plant resources.

 The successful candidate will need to ensure Mauser  programs are embraced and understood throughout the Company.  Therefore, the individual will need to be a  leader with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Mauser is the Global leader in industrial packaging and the successful candidate for this position will be required to continually improve our Quality performance via use of the Mauser Quality System and drive continuous improvement.

Main Position Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and communication of the Mauser Quality System.
  • Evaluating and improving root cause analysis processes throughout manufacturing facilities
  • Direct interaction with key customers to address quality procedures as well as concerns, clearly and professionally communicating response to incidents and improvement plans
  • Strong business partner with division, plant and sales management
  • Provide consistency in quality practices, procedures and approach
  • Lead and support project-based quality work (i.e. six-sigma projects, supplier quality initiatives, etc.)
  • Act as partner to the leadership team to enable an improvement in the culture that places quality amongst the organization’s top priorities first
  • Evaluate current supplier quality, identify areas of opportunity and put action plans into place
  • Ensure complete and timely submittal of required quality reports from all sites in business  
  • Regularly review measurements of quality performance, serious incidents etc. and drive continuous improvement
  • Monitor audit findings, closure rates, follow-up with plants, look for common issues across plants, etc.
  • Regularly visit Product BU facilities for review of site conditions and management review of quality issues
  • Regularly communicate with and facilitate communication among plant personnel to share problems and solutions and identify issues
  • Raise capability and awareness of organization of root cause analysis & improvement techniques (six sigma, COPQ, fishbone, 5 whys, etc.)
  • Maintain ISO certification
  • Establish, monitor and communicate key quality metrics

Key Attributes / Behaviors

  • 10+ years of quality management / leadership experience
  • Key technical experience in root cause analysis
  • Strong commitment to and track record of improving quality performance
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize needs, communicate to plant SHEQ personnel, plant managers, and senior management and ensure implementation of needed actions
  • Ability to drive activity and improvement in the business
  • Demonstrated ability to move culture and create change around quality and employee engagement
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree a plus
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) with strong facilitation ability
  • Ability to travel ~40%
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing, technical and development activities and processes.
  • Experience in management and implementation of ISO programs a plus
